Ladies and Gentlemen, It’s been in the works for sometime now and it’s finally here. The all new Faithful and Frugal website.

The blogspot site will no longer be utilized...we have a NEW design for the site and it went live last night :) The website address will remain http://www.faithfulandfrugal.com/

We have added so many new features to the F&F site. We have added a new Coupon Database for you to search for coupons that may be out there. A new section that we have added and that will continue to grow is the Learning Center. You now have better access to the F&F Events Calendar. We have added a Career Help Center for those of you that may be in search of a new career. Better connectability to our Twitter and Facebook pages. You can also sign up for the “Upgraded” blog updates sent directly to your email box and they will be in a much more user friendly format :) Please note, if you were previously subscribed to the old blog you will need to resubscribe to the NEW blog via the email subscription link on the home page if you want to continue to receive updates :)

Please help us get the word out by following us on Twitter and re-tweeting our Tweets, liking our Facebook page and sharing it with your friends. Check out what all I got at Publix this week for........are you ready???.......a whooping $0.19 before tax Not too shabby for $92 worth of product! After tax the order total was $8.89...still a 90% savings :)

VENUE CHANGE for the Jan 28th Class

Due to an amazing response, we are having to move the location of the venue down a few doors to help accommodate for all of the people. We were running out of room at our other location (which is a great thing). It will be held at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church and still hosted by The Church at Spring Hill. The date and time remain the same as well: January 28 from 6pm-9pm. The address is 5286 Main St Spring Hill, TN 37174 very easy to find at the corner of Main St. and Duplex Rd.

We are so EXCITED about all of the goings on with Faithful and Frugal. We are adding classes every week and have been featured in the local papers as well. First, thank you very much to both the Spring Hill Advertiser News and the Columbia Daily Herald for featuring Faithful and Frugal. It has been a great way for people to learn about what we are doing.

There was a misprint that I need to make a correction on, the article in the Columbia Daily Herald stated that the class for February 5, 2011 was to be held from 6pm-9pm. Actually, the times for that class will be from 9am-12pm and the location will still be Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church. The Capri Sun were a great deal, as were the veggies since they are the 19oz bags of broc/cheese and those are a huge kids fav around here :) There are better coupons out there for the Idahoan potatoes but the $0.75 one was all I had and I still think that's a decent price.

People always ask me..."is it really worth it to enter contests?"...well, my answer is YES! You never know when your name might be the one drawn and you could win a huge prize :-) Let me show you...

Today was a big day of excitement at our house...a couple months ago, my husband got a voicemail from an Anheuser Busch affiliate saying that he had won a prize in a contest that he had entered. He had to call them back and verify some information. (Now, let me insert here that YES we made sure the company we were calling back was legit and we knew that he had actually registered for the contest that they were referring to...so be certain of that BEFORE you give any info to anyone!).
You see...months prior to this phone call as I was doing one of my shops in Kroger Marketplace...my husband who was following me around with a calculator...saw a display for Bud Light beer...it was the Bud Bowl Sweepstakes and it said text to win! Well, he did...and to be honest at the time, The conversation went a little like this...ME: Oh for gosh sakes babe, we don't even drink beer...why in the world did you just enter THAT contest? ~ BIGDADDY: Who cares if it's for beer, I ain't winning the beer, chick! The grand prize is a TV...a flat screen TV...so when I win it...don't be hatin'!"...a few chuckles and a possibly a few eye rolls were exchanged :-P and on we went with our shopping. Over the next few months, Bigdaddy would casually say "when I get my TV, I'm gonna put it right here" or "This surround sound is gonna be awesome when I get my new TV"...honestly, I never thought another thing about that night...I just figured he was day dreaming, heehee...until that call came in, that is...
Initially, we thought he had won a small prize, all I could think was "great...we just won a case of Bud Light"...LOL...but after talking with them...he learned that he had been drawn for one of the grand prizes :-) A 46" Sharp Aquos TV, a $1599.00 value!!!!
So picture it...Cicily, 1947...Oh wait, that's the wrong story...errr....Okay, so I was at my computer in the den, he was on the phone in the bedroom...outta the bedroom he ran...screaming and shouting and doing the "favor dust dance", oh my word it was a sight...I saw moves that day that I didn't even know existed in his repertoire...he was shouting things like "what now, mama?" "who's your daddy?" "woot woot" "Yeah BABY" "hate to say I told ya so, but I told ya" "don't be hatin' on me" "what up now, chick" "woooooooo!!!" "daddy got a big screen, oh yeah!"...followed by a few more loud woohoo's and an "Oh, I'm sorry...what was that you said about entering a beer contest?"...and then a "how do like me now?" all while dancing and jumping up and down. Now, if you know my husband...you know this was all said in fun and said with lots of sarcasm...BUT it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life!!! Seriously.
After he calmed down and I stopped laughing hysterically and wiped the tears from my face...I said "hey, do me a favor...could you go back in bedroom, let me grab the video camera and then you come back out and do that whole dance again, okay?" I really wanted that on video, plus I thought the world just needed to see it too! LOL "No go", he says..."that was total improv and I can't do that again" :-( Such a party pooper...Oh well!
Anyway...We were sent some paperwork by express mail and given 2 days to get that notarized and sent back. Then the waiting began...6-8 weeks to get the TV...but when the flood came it extended that time to more like 10 weeks...but, hey who's counting? Uh huh...we were, LOL!

So the day finally came and yesterday Bigdaddy met the good peeps of Budweiser and Kroger and got his picture taken for the paper...then he got his TV!

As you can imagine...it only took about 5 minutes once he got home to get that puppy outta the car and the setup process began. There's just something funny about a man and his TV :-) Needless to say Bigdaddy is one happy camper, right about now!!! The kids were pretty excited too! So I said all of that to say this...You never know what thing the Lord may use to bless you and your faithfulness in being a good steward. So enter those contests, no mater how silly they may seem...you may be the next big winner :-)

Okay...gotta run! I'm off to see if I can find a diamond ring contest for Bigdaddy to enter...Mama needs some new bling...hahahahahaha

(My backyard ~ May 2nd, 2010)

I am sure by now that many of you are aware that Middle Tn, specifically Nashville and surrounding areas...was hit by major flooding over the weekend. The city has suffered major damage and flood relief efforts are now taking place. In 2 days we took on between 12-18 inches of rain (depending on the area you live in). The rivers and creeks just could not handle this kind of downpour and they began flooding the city. The Cumberland River was 51.5ft and was still rising as of Tuesday. The devastation is truly unimaginable. Thousands are without homes, cars and jobs. Some even lost their lives...and the death toll continues to rise as the cleanup and recovery efforts take place. Tent City, the home of Nashville's homeless was completely destroyed...Opryland Hotel is shutdown after taking on about 10ft of water...Opry Mills Mall and The Grand Ole' Opry are underwater. Downtown Nashville is completely flooded...The city of Franklin sustained terrible damage and many homes there are completely ruined. The Cool Springs area, including many business and the mall sustained flooding damage. Many of the outlying counties were terribly hit as well and so many people lost their homes and vehicles. It's just unbelievable!

Planting The Garden ~ Part 2 "Whadya Do?"

Part 2 ~ Next step was to plant the garden :-) I found a wonderful website that offers a FREE garden layout and it was so easy to use and even told me the correct spacing for planting, as well as let me design a layout...I used http://www.growveg.com/ and I really liked it!

Here's a snapshot of what the layout screen looks like...

Once we determined what we were planting and how many of each thing we needed, we headed back out to Lowe's for the plants. I decided to go mainly with plants that were prestarted instead of starting everything from seeds, though we did do about 40% in seeds. After we got home with the plants, we started stringing off the rows per the GrowVeg.com layout...Then we got busy planting and sowing :-)

So, as you can see we are trying to get the most out of our limited space...We planted four tomato plants in the 4X4 box and then planted 2 strawberry plants in the box in between the tomato plants..thought being, that the tomato plants will grow tall and big and the strawberry plants will grow low and cover the ground. Now, I'll be honest, I'm not sure if this will work...I may wind up with strawberry flavored tomatoes for all I know...LOL But I'm not skeert...'cause if that happens I'll be RICH!!! I mean, can you think of a better way to get your kids to eat a 'mater? I think not...the strawberry flavored 'mater in a thing of the future...trust me on this one ;-)

And VOILA! The completed garden :-)

Making the Garden Beds ~ Part 1

We have spent the last two weekends working on our raised garden beds...we decided to go with raised beds this year since we just moved into this house last summer and the soil is really still not up to par yet (we have a TON of clay...hard clay). We spent some time researching what we wanted to do and also took a "fieldtrip" to a friends house to view their bed setup (Thanks Joe & Allison).

After weighing all our options and calculating the costs, we came up with a plan. After a few trips to Lowe's (shameless plug, that's BigDaddy's day job) we were all set. BigDaddy (aka the hubby) and Daddy (aka my dad) got started building the boxes :-)

In the end (for costs sake) we decided to go with one box that is 8ft wide by 16ft long by 12in deep and one box that is 4ft wide by 4ft long by 12in deep. I had checked and compared prices on the boards and found that it was cheaper to buy the 2X6X8 boards and stack them to get the 12" height, then we ran them side by side for 16' length...so that's what we did...doing that saved us about $40.00 overall :-)

Now, you'll notice though that our ground was really not level and rather than have a lopsided bed...the guys (being the geniuses that they are ;-) decided to build the bed up and make it level...and I LOVE IT! But you'll see that it took more boards than it would have if the ground had been level. (The original plan was to build two 4X16 boxes...but that all changed).

The next step was to get the soil to fill the majority of the bed...I had called around and priced four different places and the "dirt" was gonna cost a small fortune...go figure, I mean it's DIRT for goodness sakes. To be honest, I thought my garden project was over...BUT then God intervened :-) See there's a lot right next door to us and they are building a new house there...so the morning that we are to start building the boxes...I hear a tractor next door...I say to BigDaddy "hey, go ask that man what he would charge us for some of that dirt he's moving around". Well......you see, we live in the country and everyone out here sows their garden in the ground...that's what farmers do...and apparently I'm bucking the system...soooo, the hubs feels the need to explain the situation and proceeds to tell the man that his wife has him building a fru-fru garden bed and we need some dirt for it. His little plan worked like a charm 'cause the man felt sorry him...I mean it's not everyday that a fellow country dwelling MAN has to build a "fru-fru garden" ;-) Not only does the man say "sure, you can have whatever you want" but he also uses his scoop to bring it to us :-) By now I'm sure you've guessed that BigDaddy is doing the "favor dust dance" again (oh...you can read all about that HERE see #4)...lol

Anyway...as you can see the guys went straight to work filling up the boxes...

Okay, so the dirt was basically the same thing that was in our yard...clay...but it would serve the purpose. Now we just needed a tiller...but I really didn't want to pay to rent one...hmmm, what to do??? You guessed it...another God intervention :-) In the excitement of getting our FREE dirt, we hadn't even noticed that our neighbor had started working on his garden too and he's TILLING. So BigDaddy strolls over, shoots the breeze, explains the whole "my wife is making me do this fru-fru garden" thing and then proceeds to ask if we could borrow the tiller for about an hour and it worked again! The neighbor is like "of course, that's no problem", I could see the compassion in his eyes...lol! So the guys get back to work...breaking down the clumps of clay and making the dirt workable...it's getting there...Now all it needs is a little help from the Lowe's garden center :-) See what I mean...

A great mixture of soils, composts, soil conditioners and some sand for drainage (we used more than is shown in the picture). Making the top several inches perfect for growing!

We added the mixture and then tilled it all in again...making a final pass by hand, to get it all smoothed out...

And the final product = B.E.A.U.Ti FULL dirt...if I do say so myself :-)

I made one last trip down the road to the local corner store where I bought 2 containers of night crawlers...BIG worms...I carefully added them into the soil and they went to work making the bed their own happy little home. They will be a great benefit to the garden as they multiply. Go be fruitful little worms...do as the Lord commanded ;-)

Kroger & Shell Team Up For Discount Gas!!!

Great news...If are in the Nashville area, you can now use your Kroger Plus at Shell gas stations to save on gas!!! (If you are outside Nashville, please go HERE to see if your state participates)

I have always promoted using your Kroger Plus card as a means of helping cut your gas expenses...but now you can also use that same card at Shell...that's awesome because it means more locations that we can buy cheaper gas. Sometimes when your traveling it is a lot easier to find a Shell than it is to find a Kroger fuel station...

The Kroger fuel program has changed slightly...no more 3¢ rewards...but you can still get the 10¢ reward...You can visit the Kroger website HERE to learn more about how this works in this Nashville area, but here's what the Kroger website says:

What has changed with your fuel program?
The fuel program now allows you to receive discounts on fuel purchases at Kroger and at participating Shell locations. For each increment of 100 Points redeemed at the pump, 10¢ off per gallon is awarded at Kroger or select Shell locations on a single fill up.
• 100 Points = 10¢ off per gallon of fuel for each fill-up.

How do I earn Points?
There are three ways to earn Points in Kroger stores:
1. Spending on Groceries (normal exclusions apply): $100 in Groceries = 100 Points
2. Non-federally funded Prescriptions: 2 Prescriptions = 100 Points
3. Double Gift Card Points (normal exclusions apply): $50 in Gift Cards = 100 Points

How does the process at the Shell pump work?
1. If paying inside, see cashier BEFORE inserting your Kroger Plus Card.
2. BEFORE you insert your payment card, follow the screen prompts to initiate the Kroger discount process.
3. Insert your Kroger Plus Card, or manually enter your alternate ID or your loyalty card number found on the back of your loyalty card or key fob.
4. Select your form of payment and fuel grade.
5. Save 10¢ per gallon up to a maximum of 35 gallons of fuel per purchase. You’ll start saving INSTANTLY!

How do I keep track of my points? Your current Points balance is located at the bottom of your Kroger receipt. You can also check your points balance by registering your Kroger Loyalty card number at Kroger.com.

How many points can I redeem at once? There is a limit of 100 Points that can be redeemed in a single fuel fill-up. When you redeem 100 points you will receive 10¢ off per gallon on your fuel purchase at Kroger and participating Shell stations. Fuel discounts are limited to 35 gallons.

Beware ~ Coupon Fraud...these coupons are no good!

OH NO...MORE COUPON FRAUD!!!

Wanted to get the word out about some fraudulent coupons that are making the rounds at local stores...I just got word that some stores have been presented with some very real looking coupons that are indeed fakes :-( Hopefully you guys have not come across any of these, but just in case I wanted to get the word out...

$8 off Perdue chicken
Free VIVA 8 rolls paper towels
Free Tyson bagged chicken product
Free Coke 12 packs
Free Tide
(You can click on each item above to see what the fake coupons may look like)

Some of these coupons are VERY legit looking...they even contain barcodes and all the right information (exp dates, retailer information, etc) BUT they are frauds...to the unknowing couponer, especially those just starting out, these can look great. Here's a few tips to help you not be duped by the scams:

1) If it seems too good to be true...than it probably is! If you are unsure of a coupon, please visit the CIC (Coupon Information Corporation) website at www.cents-off.com/index.cfm There you will find a list of all the correct fraudulent coupons...and there are alot :-( You can view the current list HERE and the current coupon alert with barcode numbers is HERE

2) Hardly ever do we find a FREE product coupon that is a printable...and if it's a PDF coupon be extra alert...the manufacturer can't control the number of the prints on PDF coupons, so think about it...they could be giving away tons of FREE stuff if that was the case.
Now, there are some cases in which we can print FREE item coupons...like in the case of the Egglands Best BOGO egg coupon...The difference? Well, that coupon was a one day promotion only available to limited number of people and came directly from the manufacturer. Point being...just be cautious.

3) Most FREE item coupons that are mailed to you will contain a hologram like emblem or a watermark or some kind that lets the store know that it is a valid coupon.

4) Most fake coupons will not scan at the register even if they contain a barcode...so if you have a high value coupon that does not scan...you might want to think twice.

What are the penalties for coupon fraud if convicted:
Penalties for those convicted of coupon fraud related crimes vary by each case and the number of laws violated.
As of this date,
Longest prison sentence: 17 years
Highest financial penalty: $5 million
Prison sentences of three to five years are not uncommon. Financial penalties generally vary, but have often been in excess of $200,000.

I also wanted to let you know about something that I got in an email today...Target also offers mobile coupons HERE...so if you have text messaging you can sign up for Target mobile and have coupons delivered right to you phone, then the cashier will scan the coupon off your phone at the register :-)

Publix Coupon Policy ~ Updated 2/15/10

Here's a quick update on the most recent changes regarding the Publix coupon policy...

Though I have been told that these changes have been made district wide...this post is pertaining to the Spring Hill & Brentwood Publix only, if your are not local or are located in any other area (Franklin, etc)...I would advise you to contact your store manager directly and see what the coupon policy is for that store :-)

Sadly, Publix has been forced to once again reevaluate their coupon policy and had to make some more drastic changes due to continued coupon abuse. After speaking with my Publix contact, I have become aware of even more incidents in which people are abusing coupons and it really saddens me that what a few choose as okay has made such a huge impact on the lives of so many. I had hoped that after the Trail Mix Hussies incident that things would get better, but instead they have gotten worse :-( Here's just one example of a "shop gone wrong", it seems recently that someone felt it was appropriate to go into Publix at Maryland Farms and not only get $1000 worth of groceries for free but also obtain so much overage that the store actually gave them $65.00 back!!!! THIS BLEW MY MIND!!!!! How anyone can think that a store can stay in business while giving the customer $1000 in groceries and then paying them $65.00 to take those groceries is beyond my comprehension. Now, I am well aware of how coupons work, so I know that the store will receive the majority of that money back from the maufacturer's...however...they do not get all of it back due to store coupons, competitor coupons, penny items and even some BOGO deals. When the store loses money on a transaction it affects every one of the stores employees...because their bonus is based on profit. If there is no profit, there is no bonus. Can you see why sometimes cashier get frustrated with couponers? I can!

I am all about getting the BEST deal on everything and I am the first to want to take advantage of free groceries...Lord knows we all need free stuff in this day and age...BUT there is a wrong way and a right way to do things and we all need to seek the leading of the Holy Spirit on these issues. What may be a personal conviction for me...may not be for you...and that is okay...God deals with each of us differently. But I feel it is my duty to share with you the things that I believe God has shown me regarding ethics and integrity while couponing. What you choose to do with those thoughts is between you and God. I am not placing blame or conviction on anyone...just simply hoping that maybe bringing light to these kinds of things will possibly change perspectives. I know that when I first started couponing years ago...I didn't realize that some of the deals I was getting were not the best way of doing things. It took awhile, some training with store management and some nudging from the Holy Spirit to realize that there were correct ways of getting awesome bargains...and that getting those bargains did not have to come at the cost of causing someone else to suffer, lose a deal or lose money. It's a learning process and it takes being in constant communication with my Heavenly Father. It's kinda one those ask and ye shall receive type things :-) Ask God for wisdom and knowledge and He will be faithful to provide it!

(Climbing down off my soapbox now ;-)

Updated changes to the Publix coupon policy:

1) Publix will no longer accept all competitor coupons :-(

Stores that were accepting GFS, Walgreens, CVS, etc will stop taking them. They will only accept traditional grocery store coupons from competitors within their immediate trade area.

I am aware of the following:

Spring Hill = Super Target, Kroger and Food Lion

Brentwood (Moore's Lane) = Kroger, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter and HG Hill

2) The limit on BOGO has been reduced to 3 deals...so that means 6 items total.

I am being told that the limit applies to brand...so for instance you could buy 6 Cheerios and 6 Raisin Bran because they are different brands...but you could not buy 6 honey nut Cheerios and 6 whole grain Cheerios because they are different flavors not brands...make sense?

I am also being told that the store manager has the final say on BOGO limits, so it is at their discretion to allow more items if they see if proper. For instance, a manager may understand why you need 20 jars of baby food @ BOGO but might not understand why you need 20 bottles of windex @ BOGO...make sense?

3) Stores are now enforcing the fine print on both store q's and manufacturer's q's :-(

That means that if a coupon says "one per customer" or "one per transaction" or the like than you will only get one of those items...period!

Keep in mind that wording is everything, so do yourself a favor and educate yourself on the coupon lingo...because say for instance the coupon reads "one coupon per item purchased" or "one coupon per purchase"...that would be one coupon for each and every item purchased...no limit...just one per item. Knowing the lingo upfront will help you in the long run because some cashiers don't realize the difference between the way it is worded and it can become confusing, no doubt!

On a side note...know that every time you shop you may experience a slight variance in the way things are handled...obviously a lot will depend on the cashier...BUT if we do our part to shop correctly, then it will make the cashier's job a whole lot easier AND our shopping experience a whole lot more pleasurable :-)

Coupon Ethics ~ Revisited

Hello Everybody...I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day :-) We are enjoying snow, yet again here in Middle Tennessee :-)

I wanted to take a moment and share with you a post that Kelly over at Faithful Provisions posted this morning. Kelly was kind enough to link up to my previous posts on Coupon Ethics( HERE, HERE and the follow up HERE). A HUGE thank you to Kelly for taking the time to link up with me BUT also to really shine some light on the way that God would want us to use our couponing and our deal finding...to remain ethical and using integrity :-)

Go HERE to read some really thought provoking things as Kelly shares her thoughts on the topic of Coupon Ethics. I love that she shares scripture on this kind of thing too :-) Here's an excerpt from her post that I think really sums it all up! I am sure that we have all felt this way at one point or another. And I also agree that we are all called to be givers and Kelly makes a wonderful point here...

"In closing, I want to say that in my sinful nature I have tried to explain away what I now see was abuse and misuse of the system, trying to claim I was doing it in the name of generosity. (“I’ll have more to give!”) But one thing I have learned is that God hasn’t just called me to give to others, He has called all of us to live generously. If we ignore the Spirit’s nudge to hold off, we are taking away giving opportunities from others who are wanting the chance. What I have experienced is that most of the time, giving most greatly blesses the giver — an open hand leads to an open heart! "
